The closing workshop
agreed the need to maintain activity after this project, ie beyond May 2001, keeping
momentum at least at current levels
•First stage would be an ‘activity
driven network’ as a transition to constituting more permanent
organisation, possibly including a CRC bid(s), if success warrants it
•The focus is minerals and metals
processing - there are important, distinct challenges, not covered
adequately in other resource sector initiatives with a mining focus
•In this context, energy is implicit to
minerals processing [energy efficiency, energy source selection &
switching, dependence on fossil fuels, co-generation]
•An appropriate form of ‘Steering
Committee’ to represent the drivers of the activities, including representatives
from companies and research groups (to be decided in consultation
with prospective participants)
•‘Steering Committee’ leadership
includes control of what is ‘branded’ under this network, drumming up funds
for promising projects etc
